My story as a Voice Teacher

When I walked into my first lesson, I was terrified. I could barely get a note out. My stage fright was so intense that I asked my teacher to turn around and face the wall while I sang. Still, she was patient. She saw something in my voice that I couldn’t yet see in myself.

My first public performance was a disaster. I was so nervous I could hardly make it through the song, and afterward, my parents wanted to pull me out of lessons entirely. But my teacher asked for just a few more months to help develop the potential she believed was there. Four months later, I was cast in the lead role of a musical.

Fast forward to today: I’m living in New York City as a full-time singer, recording artist, band frontwoman, and voice teacher. My career has included many different paths that have all had one thing in common, my voice. I have worked as a wedding singer, party performer, bandleader, regional musical theater actress, recording artist, and busker. I sang the national anthem at the Congressional Football Game, won first place at the Touching Hearts “Sing Your Heart Out” competition, and performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center. My music has been played on radio stations around the world, and so much more all because one voice teacher believed in me when I couldn’t yet believe in myself.

Over the years, I’ve studied the voice not just as an art, but as a science. I developed a deep appreciation for vocal technique, anatomy, and vocal theory, earning a certificate from Berklee College of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Theory, and completing the Voice Teacher Training Program at New York Vocal Coaching. I’ve also been fortunate to train with a wide range of respected voice teachers—from opera singers to Broadway performers to leading vocal coaches which has allowed me a wide perspective on technique, genre, and performance coaching.

Every singer’s voice is a unique instrument. My role as a teacher is to help you understand how yours works so you can use it with confidence, control, and consistency. My teaching is rooted in vocal health and science with a focus on building a strong, sustainable voice. When it comes to style whether it’s pop, rock, musical theater, jazz, or opera, you’re in the driver’s seat. I’m there to guide you and give you the tools to make your voice work for you.

There’s a saying: “Give someone a fish, and you feed them for a day. Teach someone to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.” The same is true for singing. When you learn how to sing, you will work for a lifetime. My teachers gave that to me, and now I’m here to pass it on to you. - Star
